Welcome to the official support page for Sing Live With Backing Tracks.
Sing Live With Backing Tracks is designed for singers, musicians, solo performers, DJs, and live entertainers who use backing tracks during performances.
The app helps you organize your music, control playback, display lyrics, adjust pitch and speed, balance song levels, create performance setlists, crossfade between songs, and separate songs into individual instrument stems for live mixing.
This guide covers the main features of the app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
A typical performance workflow is:
Your original audio files remain separate from prepared stem files.
The app is designed to work with compatible audio available to the app on your device.
Your songs can be organized so that you can quickly find the music you need during a performance.
Depending on the device and available source, music may be accessed from supported local music sources or compatible audio files.
The app does not provide copyrighted songs or a music catalog. You provide the music that you want to use.
The Main Playlist provides access to your performance songs.
Select a song to make it the current song.
Press Play to begin playback.
When normal sequential playback is enabled, playback follows the visible song order.
Create custom playlists, folders, or setlists to organize music for different performances.
Examples:
A song can be organized for the performance workflow that works best for you.
Songs can be displayed using available sorting options such as:
When using Custom Order, songs can be rearranged into the order you want for your performance.
On supported devices, drag a song to the desired position.
On Mac, long-distance dragging can automatically scroll the song list while the song is being held.
The app provides the controls needed for live backing-track playback.
Typical controls include:
The current song and playback position are displayed during playback.
Auto Pause is useful for live performances where you do not want the next song to begin automatically.
When Auto Pause is enabled, the next song can be prepared while playback waits for you to start it.
This gives the performer time to:
Press Play when you are ready to continue.
Crossfade provides a smoother transition between songs.
Instead of one song stopping abruptly before the next begins, the outgoing song fades while the incoming song begins.
Crossfade is especially useful for:
Pitch control allows you to change the musical key of a song to better match your vocal range or performance needs.
Your selected setting can be used for that song without requiring you to permanently modify the original audio file.
Speed control allows you to make a song slower or faster.
This can be useful when:
Pitch and speed controls are designed so they can be adjusted independently.
Songs from different sources can have very different playback levels.
The app includes loudness and peak-control features designed to provide more consistent playback levels between songs.
This can reduce the need to constantly adjust the master volume during a performance.
Lyrics can be associated with songs for use during performance.
Use the lyrics display as an on-screen performance reference while the song plays.
Where available, lyrics can be edited or entered for your songs.
The lyrics system is intended to help performers keep the words conveniently available without requiring a separate lyric application.
The app includes on-device stem separation for supported audio.
Stem Separation can separate a song into five musical components:
Stem preparation may take some time depending on the device and length of the song.
Once preparation is complete, the stems can be used by the Stem Mixer.
Open the Stem Mixer for a prepared song to control its separated musical parts.
Each stem has an individual level control.
This allows you to create a custom backing-track mix for your performance.
For example, you can:
Changes are heard during playback.
The remaining stems continue playing.
Stem separation is an audio-processing technology, so separation quality can vary depending on the original recording and mix.
Press Mute on a stem when you do not want that musical part to be heard.
For example:
Mute Vocals
Useful when you want to sing the lead vocal yourself.
Mute Drums
Useful when a live drummer is performing with you.
Mute Bass
Useful when a live bass player is performing.
You can mute more than one stem.
Solo allows you to listen primarily to an individual stem during a mixing session.
This is useful when checking what was separated into a particular stem or when preparing a mix.
Press Reset Mix when you want to return the stem mixer controls to their normal/default mix settings.
Undo Stems switches playback back to the original stereo song when available.
This is non-destructive.
Undo Stems does not delete:
This makes it easy to temporarily return to the original recording without having to separate the song again later.
If a song was previously prepared and you used Undo Stems, the existing prepared stem package can be used again when available.
The app does not need to unnecessarily repeat stem separation when a valid prepared stem package already exists.
When a prepared song is used with Crossfade, the app uses the prepared stem playback and its saved mixer settings where applicable.
For example, if the Vocals stem is muted for a prepared song, the prepared mix is intended to remain authoritative when that song becomes active.
Stem Separation is designed to be non-destructive.
Your original song is not replaced by the separated stems.
Prepared stems are additional files used by the app for stem playback and mixing.
Because prepared stems require additional storage space, preparing many long songs can increase the amount of storage used by the app.
Where supported by the device and audio configuration, Apple system features such as AirPlay may be available for compatible audio output.
Wireless audio can introduce additional latency depending on the network and receiving equipment.
For time-critical live performances, always test your complete audio setup before the performance.
Before an important performance, we recommend:
For professional performances, always test the exact device and audio system you intend to use before the event.
Sing Live With Backing Tracks is a performance tool, not a music-download or streaming catalog.
Users provide the audio they want to use.
Yes. The app is designed for performers using their own compatible audio and backing tracks.
No.
Stem preparation creates separate files for stem playback. The original song remains separate.
Prepare the song for Stem Separation, open Stem Mixer, and mute Vocals.
Results depend on the original recording. No source-separation system can guarantee perfect isolation for every song.
Yes.
Prepare the song for stems and mute Drums in Stem Mixer.
Yes. Use the Pitch control to adjust the musical key for your performance.
Yes. Use the Speed control to make playback slower or faster.
Yes. Use the app’s playlists, folders, setlists, and available sorting/reordering tools to organize your performance material.
Auto Pause prevents the performance from immediately continuing into another song when you want manual control between songs.
It is useful for singers and musicians who speak to the audience or need preparation time between songs.
Crossfade creates an overlapping transition between the end of one song and the beginning of another.
It is useful when you want continuous music.
Stem Separation performs substantial audio processing.
Processing time depends on the device, song length, and available system resources.
Once a valid stem package has been prepared, it can be reused rather than unnecessarily separating the same song again.
Source separation estimates individual musical components from a finished stereo recording.
Results depend on the recording, arrangement, instruments, effects, mastering, and how the original song was mixed.
Check that the original audio is still available to the app and has not been removed or moved from its source.
Try selecting the song again.
Confirm that the original song and prepared stem data are still available.
If necessary, prepare the song again.
Open Stem Mixer and check:
If all stems are muted, silence is expected.
Open Stem Mixer and verify the Mute, Solo, and level settings for each stem.
Remember that source separation results can vary between recordings.
Wireless audio systems such as AirPlay can add latency.
For performances requiring very low latency, consider a direct audio connection when appropriate.
Return the affected control to its normal/default value or use the appropriate reset control when available.
Sing Live With Backing Tracks does not provide a catalog of commercial music.
Users supply or select the audio they use with the app.
You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights, licenses, permissions, or other authorization required for the audio and other content you import, process, perform, or use.
Stem Separation does not grant additional rights to copyrighted recordings.
Audio files, backing tracks, lyrics, playlists, and other media selected or created by the user are used for operation of the app.
Stem separation is performed locally on the user’s device.
The developer does not receive the user’s songs merely because Stem Separation is used.
